Drum Lessons

My first love and favorite instrument. I’ve been playing drums since I was 6 years old, and I’ve played them professionally since I was 18. They have taken me all across the world. This picture was taken in China! It’s the instrument I studied all throughout college as well, and I thoroughly enjoy surrounding myself with circles to relentlessly beat on.

Guitar Lessons

Some of my favorite musicians as a young child were guitar players, and my mother raised me on Heavy Metal. I first picked up the guitar when I was 12 years old, just fooling around on my cousin’s acoustic while I was visiting. I convinced my Mom to buy me one shortly after, and fell in love. Once I turned 16, I got myself a job flipping burgers to afford to buy my own electric guitar! I initially taught myself through the internet, but now you don’t have to go through that same struggle!

Piano Lessons

I began piano lessons when I was 14 years old, but I didn’t really enjoy myself there because of the instructional methods the teacher was using. Too boring! Although I dropped those, I went on to study piano for 4 years in college. As an elementary music teacher, my piano skills grew even more in the classroom as we learned songs to play and sing together for music programs.

Bass Lessons

Bass is my second favorite instrument, right behind the drums. It’s the drum’s counterpoint within the rhythm section, and together they provide the foundation for the rest of the ensemble. It takes a lot of wisdom and understanding to become a truly great bass player. The musicians that have had the biggest influence on me throughout my life are almost all bass players.

Ukulele Lessons

I picked up the ukulele much later in life. It initially caught my interest because it’s simple. It’s fun. It’s portable. It’s adorable. It’s just such a happy sounding instrument! It doesn’t hurt little fingers either! What’s not to love about the ukulele?? I love being able to accompany myself in a very simple way to sing along to my favorite songs.

General Music Lessons

If you have a particularly younger student who hasn’t really expressed an interest in a specific instrument, then general music lessons can really help them to explore their options, while learning essential music skills along the way! Feel free to let me know your child’s specific situation, and we can discuss a possible direction to move in. I have also worked extensively with special needs students.

Band Instrument Lessons

Although I wasn’t in band in school (because they wouldn’t let me play drums), I majored in band in college! My degree from Texas State University is in instrumental music education. During my studies, I took several levels of brass and woodwinds courses to learn how to teach middle school and high school band. I have worked with several middle school band programs, and studied with many fantastic band directors as well
